The beginning

In the 1980’s, following a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at Kingston (UK), I worked as a photographer's assistant for John Suett at Project Photography, a large studio in central London, photographing still life, advertising and catalogue work. A year later I began working as a photographer for Operation Raleigh (now Raleigh International). Here I produced photography for PR use and photographed Raleigh’s candidate selection weekends around the UK. This culminated in photographing a three-month Raleigh expedition in Guyana’s rainforests in South America, photographing the jungle interior, the Amerindians, wildlife, landscapes, expedition projects and ‘venturers’. Upon returning to the UK I began working as a freelance photographer.

Subjects photographed include:

boats, bridges, tugs, water sports, rivers, seas, lakes, puddles, canals, river architecture, people, barges, lighterage, amphibious vehicles, travel, River Thames, Chinese mitten crabs, pollution, waterscapes, environmental issues, plants, abstracts, water, waves, ripples, reflections, mud.........

I am a professional freelance photographer, photographing aquatic locations from a unique and often dramatic perspective by using diving and kayaking skills. I work with Nikon DSLR cameras in an Ikelite underwater housing to photograph underwater portrature and sports in swimming pools to split level and underwater photography in UK rivers, lakes and seas. I also produce illustrated features for magazine publication and work any where required worldwide.

Underwater photography

HSE-approved commercial scuba diving qualification (part 4). This qualification is a legal requirement for any paid underwater work using SCUBA equipment in the UK - including underwater photography.

I am registered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as a Diving Contractor.

Kayaking

Access to otherwise inaccesible locations.

Twelve years ago I took up kayaking and developed a love and knowledge of watery places and my photographic work became increasingly involved in nautical subjects.

Being an experienced white water canoeist and former division one slalom competitor, I am able to use kayaks to photograph locations that would otherwise be inaccessible.
